Why Is the Simulation Lagging? Why Is the AI Responding Slowly? What Causes a Delayed Response?
This article explains what environments and issues may cause a perceived delayed response from the AI Persona.
When a Learner is running a Simulation, several factors impact the speed at which Call Simulator's AI Persona responds to the Learner's voice. If the Learner is in Simulation, and Long Form Button is not ON, Call Simulator listens for "end of speech." The environment in which the Learner is running the Simulation affects what happens next.
In quiet environments, for example, when the Learner is wearing noise-cancelling headphones, end of speech comes after 700 milliseconds (ms) of dead air. In noisy environments as determined by our Call Simulator system, the Learner's mic will stay open for at least one second following when Call Simulator thinks the Learner has stopped speaking. In noisy environments, the Learner may feel like the Simulation is lagging in response by about a half-second to a second longer than it seems when running the Simulation in quiet environments. In Simulation, if the Learner's utterances in a Call Simulation do not align with the Sample Conversation in the Scenario being simulated, those utterances will be deemed out of context and may result in an increased lag time as an appropriate response is generated for the AI Persona.
Additionally, independent of ambient noise, the Learner's network can be experiencing latency or other local impacts, which would impact the responsiveness of Call Simulator.
