I've exported a file from Call Simulator. What are all of these odd characters in the CSV file?

This article walks you through the steps to correct unreadable characters in a CSV exported file.

Builders may wish to, at times, modify a Rubric or a Scenario in an "offline" mode. When a CSV file is exported from Call Simulator and directly opened in Excel, there may be unreadable characters present in the CSV file. To resolve this issue, use the following steps:

  1. Open a new blank document (Workbook) in Excel.
  2. Select the Data tab and then click Get Data and choose From File -> From Text/CSV.
  3. In the "import Data" window select the .CSV file that you've downloaded from Call Simulator and then click Import.
  4. In the next screen, do the following:
    1. In File Origin select "65001: Unicode (UTF-8)"
    2. In Delimiter, select the type of the fields separator. Comma works in this case. You will see a preview of the file contents as you proceed through these steps.
    3. Then, click on Load.
You should now be able to save your new file as a .CSV file and those unreadable characters should no longer be present.
