Configuring Your Microphone

This article helps you troubleshoot in browser configuration of your microphone.

Call Simulator includes a Testing Devices dialog which can help you test your speakers and microphone prior to running a Simulation. For more information, please see this article.

This article describes the steps involved in setting up your microphone for the best possible experience with Call Simulator. When you first click on the Play button to start a simulation, after confirming you have at least one Scenario to your Queue, your browser will prompt you to give permission for the Call Simulator app to use your microphone and if your computer has more than one microphone available for utilization, you will be asked to select your microphone of choice. Clicking on the Play button may result in the following prompt depending on the browser you are using to access Call Simulator:

Click on the drop-down arrow to select the applicable microphone, if necessary:

If you do not see a prompt requesting access to your microphone and the Simulator is not responding to your voice, odds are you will need to enable your microphone within your browser. Typically, microphone settings and permissions may be accessed via your browser's settings. Shortcuts to access your browser settings vary from operating system to operating system as well as your specific device. The following steps outline how to find your microphone settings when using Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. If you are using a Mac, please follow the guidance provided by Apple at this link.

Chrome

In Chrome, click on the three dots in the upper right hand corner and click on Settings. On the Settings page, search on microphone, as shown below:

Next, click on Site Settings and then click on Microphone to check your permissions:

Then, make sure that sites can ask to use your microphone is the default behavior setting; check also the Not Allowed and Allowed sections:

Microsoft Edge

In Edge, access your browser settings by clicking on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of your browser and click on Settings. On the Settings page, search on microphone:

Then, check the permissions for your microphone and make sure the "ask before accessing" setting is toggled on, as shown below:

Firefox

In Firefox, click on the three lines in the upper right hand corner of your browser and then click on Settings. On the Settings page, search on microphone:

Then, click on Microphone, Settings, and check your microphone permissions, default behavior, as shown below (NOTE: make sure "block new requests" setting is deselected and click on Save Changes):

If, after checking your browser's microphone settings and permissions as outline above, the Simulator is still not responding to your voice, try logging out of Call Simulator and clearing your browser's cache; close your browser; and then reopen your browser and access Call Simulator again. Try to run a Simulation once more.
